You gravitated to a certain kind of sound and energy?

Yeah, an energy, always doing something to the left. What I’m doing with Achozen is like what we did with System: Put a twist on rock, now putting a twist on hip-hop. It doesn’t matter that my skin is white, and it doesn’t matter that I come from the rock world. I’ve got the coolest people backing me – George Clinton, RZA. We have 29 songs now.
RZA came from a clique, and I came from a clique, and we connected really strongly. It’s like, “Many will come, but only a few are a-chosen.” That’s where the name Achozen came from. It’s the five percent elite, who use their power to make music to guide, to lead, in a righteous way. We always have a good time hanging out together.

What does hip-hop have in common with hard rock?

The stuff that I love about is the punk-rockness of it. I mean an attitude. Punk rock is an attitude. It’s not giving a fuck and doing it anyways. I think that I can do something, and I’m doing it. [RZA] doesn’t care. He comes from Wu-Tang and he’s picking up a guitar and he’s ripping it, for himself. He’s reinventing things.

Sounds like you’re not taking it easy during his hiatus period.

Now that we’re in this hiatus moment, I’m doing whatever I want to do. I’ll score a film because I can; I’ll start a band with my friend the RZA because I want to. Why not? I want to give this opportunity to other people, and that’s why I’m doing urSESSION, so other people get a chance to do what they want.

What does your music with the RZA sound like?

It’s hip-hop, it’s heavy, it’s me doing all the beats. The Gravediggaz inspired me – but done with the new sounds, with a heavy-metal spice of song arrangement. And I’m playing sitars on them, and bouzoukis on them, and guitar.

"Of course Ghostface and Jay-Z are two different albums. Ghost was on the road a lot. A lot of times we were working in the studio without him because he was travelling a lot, but we would stay on the phone with him and get ideas and send it to him on the road and he would say if he liked it or if he didn’t. He’s one of those guys where if he hears a track a certain way, he’s just kind of married to it. When you’re making changes it makes you nervous if he’s married to a different sound of it. But we worked on his last album too. In this case, we would make changes and we would send it to him and he would tell us it was hot and to leave it like that. So that was the difference between working with Jay and working with Ghost."

Digi Snake est fini

Dans un récent ITW RZA a annoncé que son nouvel album "Digi Snakes" est fini:

"RZA announces that the whole ‘Digi Snacks‘ album is finished but put to the side for the release of 8 Diagrams (the goes same for OB4CL2). Bobby has matured allot on the album. This will be showcased by writing of the songs, which has gotten better according to RZA. There is a really beautiful song on Digi Snacks that’s called ‘Drama‘ which has an incredible chorus and Bobby tells people how to make their lives better. That one feels like a hit-record. But there is also tracks like ‘My Lovin’ Is Digi Pt.2‘ where he just talks shit; “my dick is hard” - that’s that Bobby Digital shit."

• RZA says that his favourite Wu-Tang album is ‘Return To The 36 Chambers,’ there is no other album that provides so much joy. It’s a true piece of art.


• In 1997 RZA found a book on music-theory which started his translation from hip-hop producer to musician. The first beats he made after reading this book were ‘It’s Yourz‘ and ‘Triumph.’


• RZA says that Ghostface has a very good ear for music and that he is 100% sure that if he just learned how to use a sampler he would never have to work with a producer again. He also says that INS is the only one in the Clan that learned how to make beats and that ”He actually done a couple beats that are quite interesting.”


• RZA gives a prediction that Young DB (ODB’s son) will have a hit-record on top of the charts in 2 years. And it will be a real song-song that people can sing along to. “That’s my first priority when 8 Diagrams is over; Young Dirty Bastard - he is wild, seventeen years old but just like his father. If he just can keep his health.”

"I will always do something in music. Anything that I am able to do professionally in music I will pursue it. One of the things I really want to get into scoring movies. I dibbled and dabbled in it but I really would like to get into it in a serious way especially since I seen how RZA capitalized on the scoring thing with Kill Bill and Blade and all that. I would like to deal with action movies, superhero movies, and gangster movies. Gangster shit and superhero shit in particular. I’m real into the superhero thing big time. I been into them since I was a kid, so I would love to be part of one of them. I like a lot of the movies they’ve been making and they’ve been coming out with a lot of them lately so I’m really gung ho about getting into it now."

Edit : Finalement le Wu m'a fait mentir. Le crew de Shaolin se paye une 9eme semaine dans le top 200 français. C'est 4 semaines de plus que "Iron Flag", et ça se rapproche de "The Wu" avec juste 2 semaines en moins.
En comptant cette 9eme semaine le Wu a vendu 12 100 albums dans l'hexagone.

Le trailer du film "Street Kings" utilise le son de la B.O. d'un autre film, chose assez étonnante.
Dans cette bande annonce on peut donc entendre le son de RZA "Fatal" présent dans la soundtrack de "Blade : Trinity"



Le film est réalisé par David Ayer et co-écrit par ce dernier et James Ellroy.

Résumé du film :
Un flic de Los Angeles, qui survit tant bien que mal après la mort de sa femme, se voit impliqué dans l'exécution d'un collègue officier. Il est contraint d'aller à l'encontre de la culture policière dans laquelle il a baigné durant toute sa carrière afin de trouver les véritables coupables.

Guitar Center RZA et Bruce Forat se sont associés pour produire un serie limité de la boite à rythme Roland MV-8800, à l'occasion de la sortie d'8 Diagrams.
Le série sera limité à 8 exemplaires. Le design sera directement inspiré d'8 Diagrams, de plus il sera inclu un tutoriel fait pas RZA lui meme.
Chaque machine coutera 5 999 $. Elles seront mises en vente le 28 février prochain

"To commemorate the legacy of the Wu-Tang Clan, Guitar Center has teamed up with Wu frontman RZA , and legendary electronic pioneer Bruce Forat to release a series of limited edition Roland MV-8800 drum machines–8 units to be exact. With such a small quantity being produced, these babies aren’t gonna come cheap. At a hefty price of $5,999, each unit comes complete with Forat customizations, including a custom paint job inspired by Wu’s “8 Diagrams” album, and a private tutorial session with RZA himself. I know the “limited-edition” title gets thrown around quite a bit these days, but for the tutorial session alone, this collaboration certainly earns it! Look for it in stores this month.
